After months of speculation and several meetings with representatives of the country’s government, Apple is finally ready to make iPhone in India. According to Wall street journal, production is expected to start in the next 2 months.
The apple brand will produce phones in India, but it will not be its latest models, namely the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. No report also mentions the manufacture of future phones of 2017 (iPhone 7S / 7S / Plus and 8) in the country.
Information from Wall street journal indicate that Apple will only assemble versions 6 and 6S in Bangalore. The American daily cites official reports from the Karnataka state government confirming that the Taiwanese manufacturer Wistron will begin assembling the iPhone in “4 to 6 weeks”. The assembly of the iPhone SE in Bangalore is also announced by the WSJ.
To accelerate Apple’s plans in India, the central government is working to meet the tax requirements of the Cupertino business. While the finance ministry initially denied the apple branding claims, reports suggest that Apple officials may have met with an interdepartmental group to reach common ground.
