Apple is raising iPhone prices in India due to a government import hike this year. All theiPhone are not affected; the affected iPhones are the iPhone 11 Pro, the iPhone 11 Pro Max, the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus.
As for the iPhone XR and the iPhone 7, their prices do not undergo an increase since these models are assembled on the Indian territory by Foxconn and Wistron. The prices of the iPhone 11, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac are not affected either, but it is not explained why.
The increase is around 2%. Yes it is not much, but India is a country where the price of an iPhone is high compared to the average wages of the inhabitants and even a minor increase in prices could potentially affect demand.
India is a incredibly large market for Apple, but the Californian market share is placed between 1% and 2%.
In addition to the price of iPhones, the government has also increased import costs on printed circuit assemblies from 10 to 20%. Apart from that, import charges on chargers have also been increased by 15-20%.
