We would like to draw attention to the functioning of this slide. Located at the back of the screen, the mechanism is not protected, in order to limit the weight and thickness of the machine. Suddenly, the tab that links the screen to the motherboard is fully exposed. Measuring less than three centimeters wide, it may be damaged. A product manager at the Toshiba IFA stand explained to us that the final version should be like this. We hope the opposite.

Toshiba presented its first convertible Ultrabook at IFA Berlin. The Satellite U920t walk in the footsteps of MSI S20 and Vaio Duo 11 from Sony with a slide system to transform it into a tablet.

Operating under Windows 8, this hybrid computer offers a display area of 12.5 ”(1366 x 768 pixels) in IPS. The screen is obviously touch. It is able to recognize up to five simultaneous pressure points. To protect it, Toshiba opted for the Gorilla Glass solution.

At weighing, this Satellite only weighs 1.45 kg. A good result for a Ultrabook, but not for a tablet. However, its shell is made of magnesium. However, compared to a conventional tablet this Ultrabook has a physical keyboard and full connectivity with an HDMI input, two USB 3.0 and an SD card reader. Of course, it also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. A GPS, a gyroscope, a magnetometer, an accelerometer and a management of WiDi (wireless image broadcast on a compatible monitor) are added to this configuration.

On the architecture side, the U920t is based on the platform Ivy Bridge from Intel. We do not yet know the processors that will be available at launch. The rest can accommodate up to 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD.

The Satellite U920t will be released with Windows 8 in late October. Its price is one of the good surprises: from 1100 euros.Image 3: [IFA] Toshiba U920t: a hybrid Ultrabook at 1100 eurosToshiba Satellite U920t
