The specialized site DxOMark gave its verdict and crowned the best photophone on the market. This is the Huawei Mate 40 Pro +. It is placed in front of the Mate 40 Pro and far away from the Apple iPhone 12, which also relies on photography to seduce.
The DxOMark site specializes in photography and rates smartphones according to this criterion. All terminals have been scrutinized in many categories and the big winner of 2020 is none other than the Huawei Mate 40 Pro + with 139 points.
It thus exceeds by a short head the “normal” Mate 40 Pro, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra and the Huawei P40 Pro. Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro Max, which also relies heavily on the photo aspect, is well behind, but still suffers with a very honorable score of 130 points.
It is on the photo part that the smartphone excels (the note being divided into three parts: photo, zoom and video) by collecting 144 pointss. There is currently no better on the market, according to the site, which praises the quality of low-light shots, exposure, as well as the very wide dynamic range. The zoom, while not the best on the market, is also excellent, as the site’s test shots show. In this segment, the iPhone 12 Pro Max is outdated.
The ultimate photophone
As a reminder, the Mate 40 Pro + has five photo sensors in its module at the back. The main sensor is 50 megapixels (f / 1.9) which is accompanied by two telefoto sensors of 12 megapixels (f / 2.4) and 8 megapixels (f / 4.4). There is also a 20 megapixel wide-angle sensor (f / 2.4) and a 3D sensor for the depth of field. On the front, we find a 13-megapixel selfie sensor.

A photo part above the lot, therefore, which is the result of Huawei’s hard work and his collaboration with Leica, its partner since 2016. Note that Leica could also become a partner of another manufacturer: OnePlus. The latter could also offer interesting photophones in the future. We will see this with the OnePlus 9.
For the moment, the Mate 40 Pro + is not yet available in France.
