Huawei Mate 20, 20 Pro and 20 RS will no longer receive Android security updates

Huawei has updated the list of smartphones benefiting from EMUI’s monthly and quarterly update. Two models have been added, the Mate 30 Pro 5G and the Nova Lite 3+, called in our countries the P Smart 2020. They will join the other models updated every month for the lucky ones, if not every quarter. Four models of the Mate 20 series are removed from these lists, including the Mate 20 Pro.

Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro will no longer benefit from security updates

Despite the difficulties over the past two years, and a sharp drop expected in 2021 globally, Huawei continues to be very active in the telephony market. The Chinese firm continues to develop new models, such as the Mate 40 Pro which has recently become the new flagship of mobile photography, according to DxOMark. And it should continue to present other models very soon, such as the P50 and the P50 Pro which have been the subject of several leaks in recent days. One of them claims that they could be offered with Android, but also with Harmony OS.

Because Huawei continues to support the open source version of Google’s operating system, thanks to which the manufacturer can continue to update its operating system. We speak of course functional updates, thanks to EMUI, but also security updates. In the latter case, the list of terminals currently supported is relatively long. It has about fifteen smartphones which are updated each month, as well as 50 smartphones and 11 tablets which receive security patches each quarter.

Huawei stops security updates on four Mate 20 series models

This week, Huawei communicated which devices are added to this list and which will be withdrawn, since they have reached the end of the technical support period. Huawei has thus decided to add the Mate 30 Pro 5G to the list of smartphones updated every month. And the Nova Lite 3+, a Chinese variant of the P Smart 2020, arrives in the list of mobiles updated every quarter. Four departures are to be noted. And they are all part of the Mate 20 range, released in 2018. These are the Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 RS and the 4G version of the Mate 20 X. The Mate 20 X 5G remains in the monthly list and the Mate 20 Lite in the quarterly list.

Below is the complete (and updated) list of smartphones that will benefit, at least during the month of January, from an update. The list is split into series (P, Mate, Nova, Y, etc.) and also includes Honor smartphones under EMUI or Magic UI. You will find at the very end the list of tablets concerned.
