This December 15, 2020, Huawei signed December 2020 EMUI security update kicks off on smartphones in its lineup, report our colleagues from Huawei Central. Not surprisingly, smartphones released under the Honor brand, the former subsidiary of Huawei, are also entitled to the security patch under the Magic UI label.

Obviously, not all devices marketed by Huawei and Honor are not eligible for EMUI’s monthly security patch. “Huawei releases monthly security updates for flagship models” explains the Chinese brand on its official website. If your smartphone is outdated, you will not be able to install the fix.

How to install the December 2020 EMUI security patch?

As Huawei Central specifies, the EMUI patch contains a fix for the flaws found in the Android OS. Despite the loss of its Android license, Huawei is free to integrate Google’s security patches, like other manufacturers. In detail, the firm corrects one critical flaw and 11 breaches of high severity.

  • Go to the Settings from your smartphone
  • Go to the section System update
  • Finally, click on Check for updates
  • Press on Download and install

The fix will be released on all compatible devices soon. On the other hand, “The dates of availability of the security patches vary according to the region and the model of the device”, says Huawei on its website. It also depends on your operator. Depending on these variables, you may therefore have to wait more or less time to install the patch.
