The slow-motion mode (or slowed down in French) is one of the features most appreciated by users in recent months. Samsung, Sony and Huawei do not hesitate to improve and personalize this mode to offer more options and better image quality. But what was the point? How can you make your videos successful? This is what we will show you in this article.
What is slow-motion mode?
This is an inevitable trend in 2018. As the name suggests, the slow motion mode allows you to record a video in slow motion, thus making it possible to capture very precise elements. This technique can be used for different purposes: to highlight something fun or pretty, to explain a situation that occurs very quickly, etc.
Anyway, more and more manufacturers offer this functionality in their devices. Image quality and recording speed vary from one model to another, however more and more high-end devices use 960 frames per second recording. For the curious: this technology appeared on a smartphone with the Motion Eye sensor of the Sony Xperia XZ Premium.
Each manufacturer does things their own way so it is difficult to generalize this technology. What you have to remember is that it is sometimes difficult to take your video at the right time: you record a short lab of time which, thanks to the slow motion, is transformed in a few seconds. In other words, you have to be careful to capture the situation at the right time, so much so that it is sometimes a problem. Samsung has found a solution: it offers an automatic recognition / recording system.
How to make a slow motion recording successful?
Things are much more complicated without the automatic mode. The main difficulty is to come and capture the scene at the right time: you want to record a very short time so you have to arrive and press the button at the right time. In a situation where everything is based on instantaneity, it is almost mission impossible (unless you know precisely what will happen and when). In short, forget the moment or hope you are lucky.
Forget the instant
If you have the stage under control, however, and know exactly when to press the button, you can get good results. First of all, make sure you are not too far or too close to your object (usually a person), it is useless to have a good timing if the object of your video is not clearly visible. Train, you will realize if there is a time lag between the moment you press the button and the moment when it really starts recording.
Automatic recording option should always be offered with slow motion
Like all videos, it is important to have good stabilization. If you're shaking, your video will be bad, whether it's slowed down or not. Of course you probably have a stabilizer in your smartphone but be sure to hold the device firmly in your hand to avoid the risks.
