This may be THE feature you have been waiting for the most: dark mode. With iOS 13 and iPadOS, the famous Dark mode has appeared on more and more applications. It was already available on the Mac, although before Catalina there was no automatic mode. You can activate, deactivate or program the night mode of your iPhone by adjusting its wallpapers.

Prerequisites

The conditions to be able to benefit from the night mode on iPhone are meager: you just need to have a device under iOS 13 or iPadOS.

To activate or program the dark mode, go to the display settings.

1.1. Come on Settings > Brightness and display ;

1.2. In Appearance, select Dark ;

To leave the dark mode, or bright, permanently, deactivate Automatic. Otherwise, you can program these modes:

1.3. Activate Automatic ;

1.4. Press Options ;

1.5. Select From sunset to sunrise or set custom times with Personalized program.

step 2: choose a suitable wallpaper

Imagine, the night mode is activated but the screen of your iPhone is very colorful, very visible. This creates a contrast and may interfere with some. There is an Apple setting and wallpapers suitable for dark mode.

2.1. Come on Settings > Wallpaper ;

2.2. (optional) Activate Dark appearance darkens the wallpaper, it darkens all the wallpapers, whatever it is;

2.3. Select Choose a new wallpaper, at the top of the screen;

2.4. Choose one of 3 Apple image categories or your own photos:

  • Dynamic, the image varies with the position of your iPhone,
  • Picture, these are still images with the 1st ones which have a dark mode, their color is darkened when your iPhone is in dark mode,
  • Live, like your Live photos, these images come to life for a few seconds. However, you will only be able to enjoy it if it's the lock screen and you press it for a long time, using the Haptic feedback,
  • The others are categories, albums of your own photos (Live or not);

2.5. Select one of the images or photos;

2.6. (optional) Crop your convenience;

2.7. Press on Define ;

2.8. Define if this image is your new one notch locked, welcome screen or Both.

However, nothing prevents you from choosing a photo directly in the Photos application:

2.9. Open Pictures ;

2.10. Choose a photo (if it is a Live photo, there will be no sound);

2.11. Tap the share icon;

2.12. Scroll down to find Use as wallpaper ;

2.13. Crop and define on which screen this photo will be.

step 3: use 2 shortcuts to night mode in the iPhone Control Center

You can also activate and deactivate certain display and brightness settings in the control center. This is the case for the dark mode.

3.1. Go to Control center ;

3.2. Hold down the brightness adjustment;

3.3. Activate (or deactivate) the Dark mode, just like the Night shift and the True tone.
