You have just purchased a Google Home smart speaker or a Google Home Mini. Only here, the handling seems complex and you encounter some difficulties, such as the often unwanted launch of your speaker or connectivity problems. A restart or even a reset of the device is required.

Often restarting Google Home

In many cases, restarting your Google Home / Google Home Mini is enough to remedy the various problems of these. Restarting should be the first reflex in case of a bug.

As with any other consumer powered electronic device, Google Home can be restarted by cutting power from the source. To do this, disconnect the power supply, then wait about 30 seconds and reconnect it. If for some reason you cannot access the power outlet, the alternative will be to restart Google Home from your mobile phone or tablet:

  1. Launch the free Google Home app.
  2. Select your Google Home device from the main menu.
  3. Press the “Settings” button at the top right of the window.
  4. Tap the three dots icon in the upper right corner.
  5. Press “Restart”.

Once all of these steps have been completed, your Google Home will restart and automatically connect to your home Wi-Fi network. Wait a few minutes to load all the available features before communicating with the device by voice.

If after restarting you continue to have problems, this means that the first method has failed and that resetting the smart speaker is a last resort.

Restore factory values, less recommended but effective solution

This method is unfortunately not vocal! To reset your Google Home, you need to press the microphone button on the back of the device for 15 seconds. It should be noted that an accidental reset is therefore impossible since it is only activated by a long press.
