Recover deleted photos via your computer (without root)

You don't necessarily need to root your device to be able to recover deleted photos, videos and files from your smartphone. However, you will need to use a computer and software. There are many on the market. Many Recuva alternative software exist, we can cite 7-Data Recovery, FonePaW or even Dr Fone, and they work pretty much in the same way as the one presented above. However, Recuva has allowed me to get the best results. Dr. Fone is also quite popular. Some options are free, others are paid sometimes.

Other solutions, notably via computer, exist like Dr. Fone or FonePaw. I refer you to various tutorials written in the past:

For this article, we opted for Recuva. This program, offered by the same developers who designed CCleaner, can sometimes work wonders. Just follow the instructions below and you should be able to recover your photos simply.

  • Connect your device to your computer.
  • Launch Recuva.
  • Select your device in the list at the top left then click on Scan.

Using the software is simple. Recuva
  • When the scan is complete, select the file, and click Recover.

The preview of your file is not available but don't worry: it's completely normal. Remember to save your file on your computer this time! Little tip: with Recuva, you can also check several files in order to recover them all at the same time, this is particularly practical if you have accidentally deleted an entire folder.

recuvascreen "sizes =" (max-width: 806px) calc (100vw - 24px), (max-width: 995px) 782px, (max-width: 1216px) calc ((2 * (100vw - 30px) / 3) + 15px - 24px), 782px "src =" "srcset =" recuvascreen-w782.png 782w, 596w, png 450w, 336w, 300w "class = "lazyload
Recuva is quite effective, but not foolproof. AndroidPIT

You will note that this operation also allows you to fully clean a smartphone, before reselling it for example.

Note: when Recuva finishes finding the deleted files, try to reinstall them on a different device than the one with which you extracted the photos. Conflicts can sometimes arise

Find deleted photos via an application

Some applications allow you to perform this manipulation directly from your Android device, but you will need a roote smartphone or tablet. We can suggest DiskDigger, which allows you to find deleted files from your internal memory or even on a microSD card. The advantage of this application is that it allows you to choose which part of the scanner system.

It is helpful, once you have the app, to turn off Wi-Fi and data connections on your phone. This is because when data is deleted, be it photos, music or documents, it is only really erased when something has been written to it in the device memory . In addition, it is essential to immediately deactivate all cleaning applications on your phone, as they may permanently delete the files that you have inadvertently deleted, making them impossible to recover.

Note: On a non-root device, DiskDigger is limited to retrieving images from your thumbnail caches, which means that the quality of the images will likely be worse than the original photos or videos. Recovering the original version in complete resolution of photos or videos is only possible by rooting your device and obtaining the Pro version of the application. If you don't know how to root your phone, refer to our full guide on how to root your Android smartphone.

You launch a scan of your device, then select the files you want to recover from those that Diskdigger was able to reconstruct. The plus is the preview of the photos, this time you will be able to view the deleted files more easily. The application gives you the possibility to send it to you by email.

How to save your photos on Android

Now that we have explained how to recover deleted photos on Android, the next step is to prevent this from happening again. To do this, we recommend using an application such as Google Photos. It offers unlimited photo storage and the backup function is easy to configure.

Once you have installed the application, access its settings, then Backup and synchronization. You can choose the frequency (and method) to save your photos. We recommend of course to save as often as possible.
