How to free up RAM on your PC

RAM (Random-Access Memory) is a memory which facilitates the execution of programs on your PC. Whenever your computer runs out of RAM, it starts to slow down. This is the first indication that your RAM is full and needs to be cleared. Here are some of the simplest and easiest methods to free up RAM memory on your PC. If the first option does not solve your problem, go to the next. So, you have to follow this order to solve the problem:

  2. Close unnecessary program
  3. Disable unnecessary startup programs
  4. Install a RAM cleaner

Restart your PC

Restarting your computer is one of the simplest and easiest ways to free up RAM. When you restart your computer, programs that were taking up too much space are reset. In addition, it cleans up applications that run in the background, even when you're not using it. It is one of the most common standard methods for cleaning up your RAM.

Close programs running in the background

Whenever you are working on your PC, there is a good chance that several programs open at the same time are open and most of them are not even necessary at the moment. Because of this, your RAM occupies an important place in these programs and ends up slowing down your computer and even sometimes, it can cause a crash. It is therefore preferable to close programs that you do not need at the moment.

Some programs may take up more RAM than you even know they are open. To identify and close them, follow the instructions below:

  1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete.
  2. Choose Task Manager, select Processes and identify the programs that are taking up more space in the CPU.
  3. Click on End of task after having selected the programs which you do not need at the moment.

Disable unnecessary startup programs

You've probably tried so many methods to fix RAM problems, and none of them have helped you. In this case, it would be preferable for you to try with this method. In it, you will need to identify the programs that you do not want to start immediately after starting your PC and deactivate them to free up space. You may not be aware, but they are consuming too much RAM. To identify them:

  1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete. Choose Task manager, click on More details then on the Startup tab. Click on Start impact for sorting (from top to bottom).
  2. Identify programs that you no longer need or do not plan to use for the long term
  3. Right click on an unwanted program and click Deactivate.

This will help you free up a considerable amount of memory. You can also uninstall them if you no longer want to use them.

Install a RAM cleaner

It is recommended that you install a RAM cleaner that identifies the cause and alerts you whenever your RAM is full. You will be notified before the memory is full. The program automatically cleans up the space. Be aware that some of these programs consume a considerable amount of RAM, so it is better to choose those that facilitate the operation of your PC.

Adjust virtual memory

It's a great way to improve the performance of your PC and prevent it from running out of memory.

You can do this by opening File Explorer, right-clicking This PC> Properties.

Then click on Advanced system settings and, under the Advanced tab, choose Settings in the Performance area. Choose the Advanced tab and the interior, find the virtual memory and click on the Modify button. Clear the Automatically manage swap file size for all drives check box and set the Initial and maximum size values ​​of the size managed by the system to larger values.
