You have just purchased a Google Home or Home Mini and now want to configure it? In this article, we will show you how to reset Google Home (Mini), change the WiFi settings and configure the multi-user option to use multiple accounts and users.
Installing Google Home (Mini)
When setting up Google Home (Mini), make sure the WiFi reception is sufficient. If this is not the case, you may need a solution to extend your WiFi connection. In case your home network contains sensitive data, you can connect your Google Home to the guest Wi-Fi network.
The initial setup of Google Home (Mini) is done from a smartphone. The app for Home is available on the Play Store and App Store.
Application wizards guide you through the installation process.
Everything goes through your Google Account. If you have an Android smartphone and are already using a Google account, the many configuration steps will be faster. After all, Google already knows your calendar, your contacts and the streaming applications you have registered.
The Google Home (Mini) should ideally be connected to the same WiFi network as your other Smart Home devices and especially Google Cast. Streaming will be easier if you later tell Michael Jackson in the living room.
However, if you have guests, you should not give them access to the same network, but set up guest access in your router. Otherwise, you can link your Google Home speakers to your Google Account.
After performing a simple setup, all Google Assistant activities go through your user account. In the long run, you need to configure guest access and additional user accounts.
Add a second user account
Anyone connected to the same Wi-Fi network can find Google Home speakers from the Google Home app and link their Google Account. Google Home differentiates users by voice. Each user can then associate his own Google Assistant's streaming services, which are not accessible to other users.
Reset Google Home
The reset button on the Google Home Mini is located at the bottom of the device near the power cord. Keep it pressed until the Home Mini is reset. It can then be configured as a new device from the application.
Change WiFi in Google Home Mini
If you change your router and your Wi-Fi connection has changed, or for any other reason, you must notify Google Home Mini. Thanks to the functionality of Google, new Android smartphones can know when the Google Home (Mini) is offline. The app then quickly guides you to choose the right wireless network.
However, if you want to manually change the Wi-Fi settings, to connect your Google Home (Mini) to the main Wi-Fi network instead of the Wi-Fi invitated network for example, you must enter the settings yourself. You can do this from the Google Home app.
You will then be redirected to the main menu of the Google Home app. Refresh the Discover pane by dragging it to the bottom of the screen. Home Mini will catch your attention with a message.
