Every now and then, you come across something on Google’s YouTube video sharing platform that you want to share with your friends immediately. However, did you know that there is also an option to chat while watching a video. This means you don’t need to leave your YouTube app to chat or send someone an important message.
How to “Chat” “Chat” with Your Friends on YouTube
Here’s how to do it: Using the YouTube app: * Open YouTube and log in with your account * Tap the Activity tab placed in the third place at the bottom * Here you will find two subtitles – Shared and Notifications. Tap Shared. * Press Contacts
* Here you will find a list of suggested contacts, which YouTube thinks “You may know” with a quick shortcut to add them * Also, YouTube will give you two options to add more contacts * First, by sending a link to ‘invitation. This is a custom link that you need to share with your friends to add them to your contacts. * Second, “Find in your directory” which is much more convenient when giving your contacts access to YouTube * Tap the chat to find a familiar personal chat window * Tap the three-dot icon in the upper right corner to find options like – add participant (to turn it into a group chat), leave the chat and ignore notifications * You can even create a group from the beginning by tapping on New group under the shared tab. You need to create a group name first and then add participants from your contacts.
However, note that the recipient must have enabled YouTube notifications settings, otherwise they will not be notified.
Recently the same messaging functionality was also rolled out for the web version. Here’s how to use it:
* Open YouTube and login with your account and go to the home page * Look for a “Share” button between the bell and the quick launcher * Click on this icon and you will find the list of contacts you have on YouTube * To add a new contact, click “Contacts” in the right corner of the tab * Here is a list of suggested contacts, which YouTube thinks “You may know” with a quick shortcut to add them
* If you can’t find the person you want in the suggested list, there is only one way to add them, that is, by sending an invite link. It is a personalized link that you must share with your friends so that they can add them to your contacts. * The options of creating a group, conversation, inhibition notification are also available on the desktop.
Just like the app, also note that the recipient must have enabled YouTube notifications settings, otherwise they will not be notified.
