Highest-paid Youtuber in the world is a 9-year-old American

Forbes magazine published the list of the highest paid YouTubers in the world. At the top of the standings is Ryan Kaji, a 9-year-old American. Leader of the ranking for the third year in a row, Ryan Kaji won nearly $ 30 million in 2020. His channel is however the first neither in terms of audience nor in terms of subscribers.

Anyone can now express themselves on the Internet. And it doesn’t even help to build a website. Just make the buzz on social media. Behind this generic term hide social networks of course, such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, but also streaming platforms where anyone can post videos. YouTube, Dailymotion, and Twitch are good examples.

YouTube, which celebrated its 15th anniversary at the start of the year, has become the main audiovisual medium in the world with more than 2 billion users connected each month in 2020. Users publish more content every day than they are possible to see them for a lifetime (500 hours of videos are published every minute on YouTube, or 720,000 hours per day; and an 80-year-old lived approximately 701,000 hours). Of course, not all channels have the same audience. And not all Youtubers earn as much as others.

Almost $ 2.5 million earned each month

The American business magazine Forbes publishes the ranking of the best paid Youtubers every year. At the top of this ranking, you find this year Ryan kaji, a 9-year-old American who posts videos on his Ryan’s World channel where he talks about toys, where he performs funny science experiments and where he reveals little bits of his private life.

This channel counts 41.7 million subscribers and generated 12.2 billion views in 12 months. He is also the highest paid of Youtubers, since he generated $ 29.5 million in 12 months. Or $ 2.5 million each month! Note that these figures correspond to the period between the months of June 2019 and June 2020.

Young Ryan is a regular at Forbes Top 10. He was also in first position in 2018 and 2019. He indeed won $ 22 million between June 2017 and June 2018. And he pocketed $ 26 million between June 2018 and June 2019. But these revenues do not all come from his activity on YouTube (advertising and sponsorship). Indeed, Ryan also hosts a show on the Nickelodeon channel and his parents (and advisers) have also developed a line of derivative products, including toys, accessories and toothpaste.

Ryan isn’t even first in audiences or subscribers

And it is thanks to these ancillary activities that it is in first position. Because Ryan’s World is neither the first YouTube channel in terms of audience or in terms of subscribers. If you take a close look at the Top 10 Highest Paid Youtubers, you’ll find Anastasia Radzinskaya, a six-year-old Russian Youtuber who counts 190.6 million subscribers and 39 billion views in 12 months. Its commercial activities are less developed. Arrived in the Top 10 a year ago, she is already in 7th position in the Forbes ranking. And she will certainly continue to move up the ranks in the coming years.
