Here is the list of all the shortcuts of Chrome OS (in particular the one to make screenshots)

Devices using the Chrome OS operating system, called Chromebook, have many keyboard shortcuts, allowing operations to be performed faster. We present them all in this article.

Before I start, it's fair to know which keys I'm going to refer to. Chromebooks have specific keys for certain functions and we will refer to them from now on using these names:

  • Return : right arrow of the ESC key
  • refill : circular arrows, alternative key F2
  • Full screen : dotted rectangle, F3 alternative key
  • Show windows : rectangle flanked by two bars on the right side, alternative key F4
  • Decrease the brightness : little sun, alternative key F5
  • Increase brightness : large sun, alternative key F6
  • Play / pause : fairly explicit, alternative key F7
  • Mute : Barr speaker, F8 key alternates
  • Increase and decrease the volume : alternative keys F9 and F10
  • Menu : similar to the icon of the hamburger menu and which opens the notification panel located at the top right.
  • Research : replaces the classic Caps Lock, in the form of a magnifying glass or two concentric circles
  • Assistant : Google Assistant dedicated button not found on all Chromebooks

  • Screenshots : Press Ctrl + Show windows (or Ctrl + F5)
  • Partial screenshot : Press Shift + Ctrl + Show windows (or Shift + Ctrl + F5), then click and drag the mouse
  • Screen capture (tablet) : Press the power button + lower the volume.
  • Activation / deactivation of caps lock: Press Search + Alt.
  • Screen lock : Press Search + L
  • Log out of your Google account : press Shift + Ctrl + q (twice)

Shortcuts on external keyboards

If you are using a Windows or Mac keyboard, the Windows or Command key replaces the Search key.

How to modify the operation of the keys:

  • Click on the time in the lower right corner
  • Click on Settings
  • Under "Device" click on the keyboard
  • Change the function of the keyboard keys
