The iPhone X is already in the hands of users. Screen occupying almost the entire front surface, no Home button, new design, so new ways of doing some usual things. In this article, we offer some tips for getting the iPhone X under control.
Tip 1: simulate a Home button
With its edge-to-edge screen, the iPhone X does not have a Home button. But, iOS offers us to activate one. And this, thanks to the famous AssistiveTouch. The button AssistiveTouch does not have the same shape as it has on previous iPhone. It takes the form of a virtual Home button instead of that of an iOS application. By pressing hard, you access the home screen. By pressing twice in succession, you activate multitasking.
By default, AssistiveTouch is disabled on iPhone X, as on other iPhone. To activate it, go to Settings > General > Accessibility. Go down a little and you will see the option, activate it.
Tip 2: dock the keyboard left or right
The handling is different from previous iPhone. To use the keyboard on one hand on the iPhone X, press the emoji icon hard, you will see the keyboard icons. You choose the position of your choice.
Tip 3: look at the screen to keep it on
With the 3D sensors located in the notch of the iPhone X screen, the device is able to detect whether or not you are looking at your iPhone. This is normal, it is precisely one of the roles of these sensors. On older iPhones, to keep the screen on if you’re reading text, you need to touch it from time to time. It’s different with the iPhone X. As long as your eyes are fixed on the screen, it stays on. Useful !
Access the Settings > General > Accessibility > Face ID and attention and tick the option Attention-based functions to activate it.
Tip 4: activate Easy access
IPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 8 and 8 Plus users may know the option Easy access. It allows you to reach the top of the screen by tapping twice on the Home button. IPhone X doesn’t have a Home button, so how do we do it? Simply swipe down on the bar at the bottom of the screen that replaces the Home button.
The option Easy access is not activated as standard on the iPhone X. To do this, Settings > General > Accessibility. Go down a little and you will see the option Easy access, you activate it.
Tip 5: change application
To change the application, on iPhones prior to the iPhone 6s, multitasking is used with double pressing of the Home button. On iPhone 6s and later, you can use the 3D Touch gesture by pressing hard on the left edge of the iPhone and sliding your finger to the right. But, on the iPhone X, we have a new gesture; swipe left or right on the bar at the bottom of the screen to switch from one application to another.
Tip 6: enable multitasking
With iPhone X, you can activate multitasking by swiping up from the bar and stop in the middle of the screen. Or you use the Home button offered by AssistiveTouch.
Tip 7: Activate the Control Center
Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to activate the Control center is no longer on the iPhone X. Now, you have to swipe down from the top right of the screen.
Tips 8: Activate the Notification Center
To activate the Notification Center, you have to slide either from the top left or from the middle of the home screen. The top right is reserved for the Control Center.
Tip 9: turn off and capture the iPhone X screen
We already explained how to take a screenshot and turn off the iPhone X in a previous article, cf. iPhone X: how to take a screenshot and turn off the device.
