Here are 2 free apps to replace your webcam with your phone

Has your webcam just given you up for a job interview by videoconference? You are expected to participate in a video meeting or need to give / take distance courses and do not have a webcam?

Don't panic, we have the solution. Indeed, there are 2 free applications that allow you to use your smartphone as a webcam. Thus, you will not need to invest in a new one.

DroidCam Wireless

For your smartphone to take over from your webcam (internal / external), there is the free DroidCam Wireless app.

Note that DroidCam is only available for Android and works only with Windows and Linux. MacOS users will have to turn to Epoccam (app presented later in this article).

Here's how to use DroidCam Wireless:

1. Download DroidCam to your PC and to your Android and open the programs.

All instructions are displayed on your phone.

2. Report the IP indicated on your Android in the DroidCam window open on your computer. If you wish, you can connect PC and telephone via USB cable.

The 2 devices are now connected to the same network and your smartphone has become your webcam. A children's game!

EpocCam

If you have a Mac, then your only solution is EpocCam. Just like AndroidCam, you need to download the app and the drivers.

Once the two devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, they will link automatically.

Here is a mini-tutorial to explain the process to you:

  1. Download the EpocCam app on your Android / iOS and the drivers on your macOS.
  2. Launch the app on your smartphone.
  3. On your computer, open Skype, for example.
  4. EpocCam is presented to you as a camera.
