Two new HD channels have just appeared on the television package of Free. The novelty dates from last night. These are TF1 HD and Luxe.tv HD.
These two new versions of existing channels are only available to owners of Freebox HD. Until today, TF1 had shunned Free, judging that the quality of ADSL transmission was not sufficient. There was therefore a full offer from the competition (New and Orange) and a depleted bouquet in HD at Free. Only France 2 and M6 had previously benefited from the high definition label from this ISP.
Free returns to the HD race
Today, Free has raised the bar by receiving TF1 and Luxe.tv in HD. It only needs Arte HD to hold the whole TNT HD offer in its bouquet. Why did TF1 reverse its decision? This is the question that remains unanswered. We can possibly find an answer in the fact that the two new Free channels are encoded at 6 Mbits / s. The other Free HD channels are 5.2 Mbits / s.
