You decided to change your password in a hurry, bad luck when you wake up, you realize that you have forgotten the password which allows you to unlock your iPhone. Do not panic, this guide will allow you to unlock your iPhone very easily.
Forgot password on iPhone: restore with iTunes
Before starting, it is important to understand that to unlock the device we will present two methods that will result in restoring your device and therefore erasing its data. However, if you previously made a backup of your device, you can restore this backup and therefore recover your data, otherwise your data will be lost.
Solution # 1
If you are in the habit of regularly synchronizing and backing up your iOS device on your computer with iTunes, no problem, you can perform again backup the device now before restoring it. Please note this solution can only work if Locate my iPhone was disabled on the device, if not, choose solution # 2.
Connect your device to your computer then click on Save now.
Click on Restore iPhone … (or Restore the iPad… if it is an iPad)
On your device, a message will appear asking you to select the restoration method, choose Restore from iTunes. iTunes will then ask you to select the backup, consult the date of the backups and select the most recent, if the backup is too old, all data after the backup will be lost. Your iPhone will then start to restore your backup and your password will be erased.
Solution # 2
If you weren’t used to syncing or backing up your iOS device to your computer, follow these steps:
Connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your computer and then activate DFU mode. If you don’t know how to activate the device’s DFU mode here are our guides for each iPhone model:
Once the device is in DFU mode, iTunes will display a window telling you that it has detected a device in recovery mode (i.e. in DFU mode). Now you just have to click on the button Restore.
Once the restore is complete, restore the device backup, either to iCloud or iTunes. Or, configure it as a new iPhone, iPad or iPod touch according to your convenience.
Forgotten password on iPhone: restore via the Find my iPhone functionality
This method is the simplest and fastest. You will not need iTunes. Just access the icloud.com page from any computer or the app Find my iPhone from another iOS device connected to the same iCloud account as the device to be unlocked. Be careful however, this method can only work if the device to unlock is connected to the internet by 3G / 4G or Wi-Fi. Also remember that this method will erase the data from the device, make sure that the device has already have a backup on iCloud before proceeding.
Access the app Find my iPhone from an iPhone or iPad or any other iOS device connected to the same iCloud account as the device to be restored. If you do not have an additional iOS device, access icloud.com from your computer using your favorite browser (Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari).
Enter your iCloud username and password (the iCloud username and password are the same as the ones you use for the App Store).
You will then see all the devices linked to your iCloud account. Select the device you want to restore. Then press / click Erase iPhone.
Your iPhone will then automatically launch the data erasure program. Once finished, restore your backup using iCloud or iTunes, and if you have no backup simply select Set up as a new iPhone.
