Firefox for iOS with 3D Touch

Since November 2015, it is possible to take advantage of the Firefox browser on iOS. For this, the Mozilla Gecko rendering engine had to be sacrificed and the browser relies on WKWebView which is a central element of the new WebKit API.

Firefox-iOS-3D-TouchMozilla now offers a version 2.0 of Firefox for iOS. An addition concerns the support of 3D Touch technology on iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Pressing the Firefox icon will open a quick access menu with shortcuts to open the latest bookmark, a private browsing tab or a new tab.

With light or strong presses, it will be possible to preview a tab and interact with it in order to save a few clicks and thus perform certain tasks more quickly. Beyond 3D Touch, this version 2.0 allows you to search directly from the Spotlight search bar of the iPhone or iPad in iOS 9.

A search for text in a web page can be initiated with a long press on an element of the text or from the Share menu. Saved in the settings, the management of identifiers for sites has been simplified whether they are stored locally or synchronized through a Firefox account.
