The PacSec security conference will be held next November in Tokyo. During the event will also take place the new edition of Mobile Pwn2Own. More than $ 500,000 will be put into play.
As a reminder, Pwn2Own is a hacking competition organized every year during PacSec. Participants are challenged to hack operating systems of mobile devices by finding as yet unknown security vulnerabilities. In addition to a considerable sum of money, the winners also win the devices they have used. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the competition. For the 2017 edition, competitors will work on the Samsung Galaxy S8, the Google Pixel, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro and theiPhone 7.
Big rewards are planned for hacking iOS devices. A reward of $ 40,000 will be awarded for a exploitable flaw in Safari. Regarding Bluetooth, NFC and Wi-Fi, hackers can pocket $ 40,000, $ 50,000 and $ 60,000 respectively. A exploitable flaw in SMS and MMS will bring in $ 60,000. The big prize will concern piracy of the baseband, whose cash prize achieved 100,000 dollars.
