Facebook Messenger will soon allow you to pay your friends with PayPal

Paying back your friends just got easier. Facebook Messenger has been supporting sending money through their platform for a few years now, but you had to use a credit or debit card. Now Facebook brings PayPal in the fold. PayPal certainly has its flaws, but it provides another layer of protection in case someone gets your account.

You can access the new functionality the same way you pay with your credit or debit card. Tap the blue plus icon, and then tap the green Payments button. This will give you two options and you can just continue with PayPal from there. Pretty easy stuff. If you have ever used Facebook Messenger for payments like this, you can just hit the edit button and select PayPal. This will allow you to connect your PayPal account to Messenger.

In addition to the extended payment functionality, you will now be able to chat with a PayPal robot. The bot will help you with tasks such as answering questions, requesting help, and resetting passwords.

The new PayPal payment feature is now blocked in the US, which is a bit of a letdown. Also, it looks like iOS is the first option, but we hope it will appear on Android soon. While finding a platform to reimburse your friends hasn’t been a big deal with popular apps like PayPal and Venmo, using an app that everyone’s on has its perks.

What do you think of this new feature? Do you use Facebook Messenger to send money? Will adding PayPal change that? Let us know in the comments.
