Huawei is currently deploying EMUI 11 in a stable version on the P40, P40 Pro and Mate 30 Pro. The update was indeed able to be installed by a handful of users in Turkey. The firmware contains several clues that confirm the gradual abandonment of Android in favor of Harmony OS.

As reported by our colleagues from Huawei Ailesi, a specialized Turkish media, the Chinese firm has launched the deployment of the final version of EMUI 11 on three smartphones in its catalog: the Huawei P40, the Huawei P40 Pro and the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. For now, the update is only available to users residing in Turkey and China.

Under these conditions, we can expect Huawei to offer EMUI 11 update on European models in the days and even weeks to come. Anyway, the Chinese group has taken a little ahead of its deployment schedule. Huawei did not plan to deploy EMUI 11 in a stable version until the middle of December.

Huawei is preparing to abandon Android, it is confirmed

The update contains a handful of clues that confirm Huawei’s intentions regarding Android. According to the latest news, EMUI 11 would be Huawei’s latest Android overlay. From October 2021, the manufacturer will offer smartphones under EMUI 11 to leave the Android ecosystem and switch to Harmony OS, its home mobile OS. EMUI and HarmonyOS share a lot in common. The two operating systems therefore share the same framework, especially in terms of performance and system forecasts. In anticipation of the arrival of its OS, Huawei begins to clear all references to Android of its EMUI interface.

So the EMUI 11 update does disappear green android logo which appears when starting the smartphone. The screen just discreetly displays “Powered by Android” in the lower part. Likewise, the Android security patches, visible in the settings, are no longer labeled “Android Security Patch Level”. Everything suggests that Huawei is trying to erase any link with Google’s operating system.
