Disney + announces Hayden Christensen’s return as Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi series

In the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney +, Hayden Christensen will reprise the role of Darth Vader. By the end of the Star Wars series, the two characters face off in a new lightsaber duel.

This Thursday, December 10, 2020, Disney announced the arrival of 10 new series dedicated to the Star Wars universe, including two spin-offs from The Mandalorian: Rangers of the New Republic and Ahsoka. To everyone’s surprise, Hayden Christensen will play Darth Vader. The actor had lent his features to Anakin skywalker in the second and third opus of George Lucas’ prelogy. Christensen’s face was also digitally encrusted in the final scene of Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi, alongside Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness).

Obi-Wan Kenobi to take on Darth Vader in Disney + series

Ewan McGregor himself has confirmed that the two characters will face each other again before the end of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which takes place 7-10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith and 9 years before the destruction of the first Black Star. In episode 4, Darth Vader nevertheless affirms to Kenobi with the voice of James Earl Jones: “qhen I left you, I was only the apprentice, but now I am the master ”. The reply implies that their last meeting dates back to their duel on Mustafar.

The series will focus on how Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi watches over Luke Skywalker, the orphan left on Tatooine. In parallel, Darth Vader, accompanied by the Empire, tracks down the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy. The first season of the series will be broadcast in the course of 2022 on Disney +.
