Taking a screenshot on a Mac is very easy, especially when you know all the techniques!

Capture all screen

1- Hold down the keys Ordered + Shift, then press 3.

2- The photo of your screen will be saved on your desktop in format .png. You can recognize it by its name: "Screenshot (anne) – (mois) – (jour) – – (heure) .png"

It's as simple as that!

If you use two screens, two separate images will be recorded simultaneously.

Capture part of the screen

1- Hold down the keys Ordered + Shift, then press 4.

2- Select the part of the screen you wish to photograph using the pointer (your mouse).

3- The photo of your screen will be saved on your desktop in format .png. You can recognize it by its name: "Screenshot (anne) – (mois) – (jour) – (heure) .png"

Pro n1 tip: Once the pointer appears, you can release the keys on your keyboard.

You can move the selection you have made if you keep the space bar supported.

Pro Tip 2: Press the space bar any time to abandon the screenshot without taking a photo.

Measure the size of a screenshot

As you can see in the photo below, next to the pointer there are two numbers. These are the pixels.

When you do Shift + Ordered + 4 (before making a selection), these figures indicate the coordinates of your mouse on the screen.

Once you have clicked and made a selection, these numbers indicate the number of horizontal and vertical pixels of the latter.

Capture a window (with its shadow)

1- Hold down the keys Ordered + Shift, then press 4.

2- When the cursor appears, press the space bar.

3- Position the cursor above the window (which is then highlighted in blue) and left click.

4- You will find the photo of your window on your desktop, always in format .png.

Capture a window (without its shadow)

1- Hold down the keys Ordered + Shift, then press 4.

2- When the cursor appears, press the key Alt Then closed off space.

3- Position the cursor above the window (which is then highlighted in blue) and left click.

4- You will find the photo of your window on your desktop, always in format .png.

Capture a drop-down menu (and other items on your screen)

To take a photo from a drop-down menu, use the same techniques as for capturing a window.

1- Hold down the keys Ordered + Shift, then press 4.

2- When the cursor appears, press the space bar.

3- Position the cursor above the drop down menu (which is then highlighted in blue) and left click.

4- You will find the photo of your menu on your desktop, always in format .png.

Note that the title of the drop-down menu will not be included in the capture. If you need it, you will have to make an "eye" selection with your cursor.

This technique allows you to take other parts of your screen by photo: applications bar

For more functionality: the Capture application

If you need more features when taking a screenshot, try the app Capture which is in the Utilities folder of your applications.

Launch the application and click Capture in the top menu to access the screen capture options.

In particular, you will find a 10-second self-timer.

How do I print a screenshot?

To print a screenshot, simply open it by double clicking on it, then press Ordered + P.

Change the location of your screenshots

By default, screenshots are saved to your desktop. If you want to save them automatically in a folder, for example in a folder named Captures, you must use the application Terminal.

1- Go to your Terminal Utilities applications.

2- Type defaults write com.apple.screencapture location ~ / Desktop / Captures "(without the quotes) then press Between. Change the command according to the name of the folder you created.

For example, if you want to save your screenshots in a folder named Tutorials the command to enter the Terminal will be defaults write com.apple.screencapture location ~ / Desktop / Tutorials.

3- Type "killall SystemUIServer" (again, without the quotes), press Between, then close the order.

Screen capture and copy / paste

If you do not want to save a screenshot as such, but want to "paste" it into an application (Paint, Photoshop), proceed as follows:

1- Hold down the keys Ordered + Shift, then press 4.

2- Press Ctrl (and stay on it) while selecting your screen.

3- Your screenshot is ready to be pasted in an application!

In case of bug

Your screenshot is empty? It is likely that the application, software or site you are using has blocked this function. This is, for example, the case with the Apple DVD player. You can try to work around this limitation by downloading an application specifically dedicated to the screenshot, but there is no guarantee of result.
