Sony would ultimately refuse to reimburse some PS4 / PS5 players disappointed with Cyberpunk 2077 on console. Despite CD Projekt’s official apology, there are reports that PlayStation Store customer service is less flexible than expected. In some cases, customer service would strictly enforce regulations put in place by Sony.
The launch of Cyberpunk 2077 is decidedly chaotic. After many criticisms from PlayStation and Xbox players, CD Projekt has pledged to reimburse all disappointed buyers. “If you are not satisfied with the console game and don’t want to wait for updates, you can request a refund for your copy.” announced the Polish studio, under pressure for several days.
To get a refund, CD Projekt redirects buyers to Sony and Microsoft customer service. As several testimonials show, the two manufacturers have agreed to fully reimburse many Cyberpunk 2077 players, which goes against their usual policy.
Sony Customer Service Reportedly Denies Some Refunds
Several testimonials on Twitter, and on the Resetera forum, claim that Sony support has also firmly refused multiple refunds in the last few hours. “’Sony support has refused another refund for Cyberpunk2077. They said that even if the developers want to pay it back, they won’t ” a surfer advances. Customer service then advises to wait for the January 2021 patch supposed to correct certain flaws in the console game.
In some screenshots, customer service mentions the mPlayStation Store legal terms to clear customs. Indeed, Sony has a habit of refusing a refund “whether downloading of digital content or obtaining streaming content and game consumables has started ”. For now, it appears that refunds depend on the goodwill of customer service. It is possible that no official policy has yet been communicated to customer service agents. Without clear instructions, some are probably relying on the usual regulations.
