Cyberpunk 2077 will definitely hit the headlines. Lawyers in Warsaw, the city where CD Projekt has its headquarters, are planning to file a complaint against the publisher. They believe the company is making a false statement about Cyberpunk 2077’s performance in order to receive financial benefits.
In the world of video games, 2020 will undoubtedly have been marked by the release of the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, as well as by that of new graphics cards (RTX 3080, RX 6800, etc.). If the year saw the release of flagship titles like The Last of Us part 2, it will also have been synonymous with a real tidal wave of hatred and discontent because of Cyberpunk 2077. Far too many are the bugs, too hungry are the graphics performance on PS4 and Xbox One and too smoky seem the excuses of its publisher CD Projekt.
The Cyberpunk 2077 case escalated to such an extent that Microsoft and Sony were forced to intervene by promising players to pay them back. A great first in the history of video games. But the story doesn’t end there: lately it’s been a collective of lawyers and investors who plan to literally take the case to court.
Lawyers accuse CD Projekt of lying about Cyberpunk 2077 to the detriment of gamers
According to the New York Times, “The immediate future looks bleak for the creators of Cyberpunk – perhaps even darker than the future they’ve built in Night City. Refund requests are pouring in by the thousands. Lawyers and investors in Warsaw are addressing the issue and considering a class action lawsuit against the company about what a lawyer described as a possible criminal false statement, intended to receive financial benefits. ”
For the moment, no legal action has yet been launched. But one can easily imagine that if this were the case, the lawyers would have no trouble finding flaws in the game of CD Projekt. The game, which the publisher announced as “huge” should not contain any hidden defect. “You get what you pay for”, took care to specify the publisher in 2017.
Three years later, Cyberpunk 2077 clearly does not live up to gamers’ expectations: the game is a disaster on PS4, a bug can destroy your save, penises appear for no reason… The game’s release put CD Projekt in such a slump that the company lost $ 2 billion on the stock market. The slope will be extremely complicated for the publisher to climb, despite the patches which are starting to pour in and significantly improve the performance of the game.
