Samsung Pay ahead of Apple Pay for Crédit Agricole customers.
Indeed, the activation of Samsung Pay has been officially announced today by the bank. For the moment, the function is restricted to cards in the Mastercard network, but should be extended to the entire network by April.
Samsung Pay was launched in France in April 2018. The payment solution takes no commission during a payment, which differentiates it from Apple Pay and could therefore explain why Crédit Agricole turned to Samsung Pay to develop its mobile payment offer.
However, fewer and fewer banks are still resisting the call of Apple Pay. Since the beginning of 2019, these are HSBC, BNP Paribas and very recently the postal bank who fell for Apple’s payment service.
The possibility of the addition of Apple Pay by Crédit Agricole remains plausible. For Crédit Agricole, according to the response to iGen, the launch of payments by Samsung Pay represents a first step forward in terms of mobile payment.
The bank was already offering Paylib service since 2016 and wanted to expand the range of solutions offered.
The door to Apple Pay is therefore still not closed. However, no date has been announced at this time.
