For the automotive sector, Apple and Google have each designed their own embedded system. But which one is the best between CarPlay and Android Auto ? In one of their latest videos, the Canadians from the YouTube channel TheStraightPipes compared the two OSes in a pretty fun duel.
The voice recognition of each system is tested in a first test. An address is requested orally. Android Auto understands it correctly and activates GPS with Google Maps. It is more complicated with CarPlay, since it was necessary to repeat the address several times for Siri to understand it. One of the youtubers had to make the effort to articulate well.
The second test concerns SMS: no worries on this side. Both systems manage to respond to messages perfectly. The last test was related to the calls, and it was during this test that CarPlay did not measure up. Apple’s voice assistant was unable to recognize the contact’s name, despite several attempts. That of Google, however, got there on the first attempt.
First voice assistant to have seen the light of day, Siri is unfortunately not the most efficient today in the car. The test TheStraightPipes reveals the superiority of Google Assistant over its rival Cupertino. Voice assistants Alexa (Amazon) and Cortana (Microsoft) are even considered more effective than Siri.
