With iOS 12, CarPlay is not limited to Maps to guide you on your journeys. Apple ended up authorizing other navigation applications, available on the App Store. However, they are not all compatible. Here is a small summary of the navigation applications available and compatible with CarPlay.
Navigon
The app was removed from the App Store by its creator in May 2018. If you still have it on your iPhone, you can continue to use it. However, it will no longer be updated and therefore will never be compatible with CarPlay.
Coyote
The community navigation application that is Coyote on iOS has been adapted for CarPlay very recently with the last update dated July 11, 2019. Navigation is a priority, but real-time alerts have not been forgotten.
CoPilot GPS
CoPilot is still not Apple CarPlay compatible. However, they seem still thinking.
Google Maps
You all know Google Maps. Google did not hesitate and very quickly, updated its iOS application to make it CarPlay compatible from September 18, 2018.
HERE WeGo
HERE WeGo still hasn’t updated its app. We still don’t know if it will ever be compatible.
Sygic
Sygic is perhaps the one who expected the most to be able to adapt its application. However, it was not not the first since the update was carried out on January 2, 2019.
ViaMichelin
ViaMichelin has not rejected the possibility of future compatibility, but to date we do not know more.
TomTom GO Navigation
It’s fairly recent, but TomTom has been Apple CarPlay compatible since June 3, 2019.
Waze
We were talking about it here, Waze is one of the applications updated quickly and compatible since September 18, 2018.
Maps.me
Since August 6, 2019, Maps.me has joined the club of compatible navigation applications. It has the advantage of having all its cards with an offline mode and all its functionalities accessible for free.
Now that you are no longer limited to Plans, even on your CarPlay-compatible car, which navigation app will you use?
