You are not eligible for fiber and your ADSL connection is anemic? The main ISPs offer a solution adapted to your problem: fixed 4G, provided that you are eligible. Find out what the best 4G Box offers are.
For this update of our file dedicated to 4G boxes offered by the various Internet Service Providers, the only real innovation is on the Orange side. The operator has indeed updated its offer, the 4G box being replaced by a 4G + version, all without price change. We therefore benefit from a doubling of the theoretical bandwidth (in download) and WiFi AC support.
A few years ago, Bouygues Telecom launched its “fixed” 4G Internet access offer for individuals, with a dedicated 4G box. But since time, Orange, SFR, or even more recently Free have also taken the step of fixed 4G, in turn offering similar offers. Intended for areas underserved in xDSL and not eligible for fiber before many years (if ever), these fixed 4G offers provide rural areas with the much-needed broadband. Only prerequisite: to be close enough to an eligible 4G antenna.
Not all offers with 4G box are created equal. Technical characteristics, achievable speeds, box made available to the user, maximum quota, associated services and of course price: we have studied and compared all the offers offered on the market by the main Internet access providers, in order to ‘extract the best.
Free, SFR, Orange, Bouygues, who has the best xDSL / Fiber box?
What are the best 4G Box offers?
4G Box from Bouygues Telecom, Free Box 4G, Orange with its 4G + Flybox, SFR 4G + Box or NRJ Mobile’s 4G Internet Box: we have dissected all the 4G fixed offers on the market to study them in depth and choose the best of them according to your needs.
Note in passing that some offers, such as those of Orange or SFR, are labeled “digital cohesion” by the State as part of the Digital Cohesion of Territories program. As such, it is for example possible at Orange to acquire the 4G modem free of charge, subject to eligibility for the government device, instead of renting it.

The first to enter the general public market for fixed 4G offers with its 4G Box, Bouygues Telecom has since had time to refine its offer. The first version of the box provided, limited to 4G, quickly gave way to a more complete box, compatible 4G +, but unfortunately with only one Ethernet port. Depending on the case, you may therefore need to acquire an Ethernet switch separately.
Above all, it is the only truly unlimited fixed 4G offer, with no monthly data quota. However, the ISP charges these features of its offer for a higher rate than competitors. Good news, however, customers benefit from a reduction of 10 euros the first year.

Arriving after SFR, Bouygues or Orange on the fixed 4G market, Free takes up the recipe that has already worked with ADSL and Fiber: to offer a complete offer and above all at a price that defies all competition. The icing on the cake, the Free Box 4G offer offers the highest (theoretical) maximum speed, with up to 320 Mbps available for download. Eligibility for this offer remains dependent, however, on the presence of a 4G antenna compatible with the ISP, as is the case for its competitors. But in the case of Free, the number of eligible areas remains reduced.
The other fixed 4G offers on the market
Apart from Bouygues Telecom and Free, only five other market players offer a fixed 4G offer: Orange and SFR with their own infrastructures, and NRJ Mobile as MVNO. Their offers are however a little less attractive than the two selected above, for different reasons (commitment period, technically outdated 4G modem or price too high compared to the characteristics of the offer).
Finally, for those who do not find what they are looking for here, there is always the solution of taking a conventional 4G / 4G + subscription with SIM only and acquiring a 4G / 4G + modem… provided that use as a modem is authorized by the mobile operator.
