BMW, lhe German manufacturer of high-end cars has announced the termination of the subscription which allows the use of Apple CarPlay over Wi-Fi.
The CarPlay feature on BMW cars was launched in 2018 with the brand’s latest 7.0 operating system, users received a free one-year subscription to the service. After 12 months, the manufacturer had offered the owners a subscription of 110 euros in order to be able to keep the service for a period of one year.
Now, a BMW spokesperson says that CarPlay functionality will be offered free of charge for life on all models with the latest iDrive system. Users with a model that is not, such as the i3 and i8, will have to pay a subscription that will be valid for life.
However, those who have already paid for a subscription will be offered a free and unlimited subscription instead. Valid for the United Kingdom in the first place, this policy is now offered in France.
For your information, Apple claims that it does not charge any fees to automakers so that they can have the right to incorporate CarPlay into their cars.
