When IDC talks about the personal computer market, it includes desktops, laptops, workstations, tablets and detachable tablets. In 2017, this market represented a total of 423.2 million units delivered, with a decrease of 2.7% over one year.
IDC predicts that in 2022, 385.7 million units will be involved. A drop with the desktops and touch pads that will be the most impacted.
The traditional PC market would grow from 259.4 million units in 2017 to 248.3 million in 2022. Adding detachable elements, it would no longer be a decrease but a slight increase. The detachable would not be enough to reverse the decline for the tablets as a whole.
For IDC, the fact remains that " convertible and detachable continue to present long-term growth opportunities in the consumer and commercial markets. "
