According to Nikkei, Apple has anticipated the possibility of increasing iPhone production compared to last year's volumes at several suppliers. And despite fears of an economic crisis that could slow demand.
Analysts had predicted a “super cycle” of around 220 million iPhones sold in 202, mainly through 5G. But a, it was before a potential global recession caused by blockages related to the coronavirus which bring to knees different sectors of the economy.
Despite these difficulties, Apple is said to have declared its Chinese suppliers that it plans to increase production in the coming months. Its target is to reach 213 million units by the end of the year. A very positive figure, which would represent + 4% compared to sales in 2019. Half of this figure will be devoted to the iPhone 12, while the remaining 50% will be divided between the iPhone and the other smartphones still listed in the different parts of the world.
In addition, the figure is higher than new analysts' estimates. In fact, following the coronavirus, the latter lowered their forecasts by 220,200 million sunken iPhones in 2020. The new iPhone SE is experiencing great success, at least according to preliminary estimates. Apple will sell 15 million of its cheapest iPhone by the end of the year, analysts said.
It is not excluded that Apple, a company rich in liquidity, has chosen to increase production not so much to meet future user demand, as to secure supplies, even accumulating products to sell in the coming months. In fact, many suppliers would face serious difficulty without a large number of orders from Apple.
