Apple sued by Swiss company

A Swiss company has taken legal action in the United States, arguing that when used together, the iPhone, Apple TV and the iOS remote control application infringe one of its wireless technology patents.

Apple is the subject of a new patent infringement lawsuit filed last week by the Swiss company SmartData in a California court. In issue, the iPhone, Apple TV and the iOS remote control application which when used together infringe a patent on wireless technology.

SmartData, previously unknown to the battalion, received this patent in 2007, shortly before the launch of the first iPhone. The Swiss company says it approached Apple in 2004 to negotiate a license agreement, without success. Another attempt was made when the patent was validated by the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s (USPTO), but again, the Cupertino firm could not have paid close attention to it.

SmarData claims that Apple is knowingly using its patent and is claiming an injunction against the products listed above, as well as damages the amount of which has not been disclosed.
