Apple has implemented a new software tool that can calibrate iPhone screens during a repair without using a physical device.
This tool will soon be deployed in Apple Stores and at authorized resellers. Until now, calibrations during tile replacement were done using a machine called Horizon, but that era is now over; the processor will thus gain speed. Here are Apple’s statements on the subject:
Apple is pleased to announce that we have optimized the iPhone screen calibration to make screen repair work easier in store.
As of September 17, 3D Touch calibrators will no longer be required to perform repairs on the iPhone 6S and later. We have optimized the calibration process using software. This means that we can now calibrate a repaired iPhone by simply connecting the iPhone to a device and running our calibration software and diagnostics. This change will create a more flexible workspace in many repair rooms. Most importantly, you will save time for yourself and our customers.
