Research firm IDC analyzed global market share and sales for 2019 and announced the top five handheld vendors for 2019. Apple remains in first place, followed by Xiaomi.
According to this research, a total of 336.5 million portable devices were sold in 2019. This is an increase of 89.0% compared to 178.0 million units shipped in 2018. Wireless headphones occupied nearly half the market, followed by smartwatches and bracelets.
Apple is also confirming itself as the undisputed queen of the market for 2019 thanks to the growing popularity of the Apple Watch, AirPods and Beats products. The firm records an incredible sales growth of 195.5% compared to 2018. As for Samsung, the company occupies the third place. It experienced surprising growth of 156.4% over one year. In second place, we find Xiaomi, even if it did not mark a growth rate as standard compared to its competitors, but was able to extend its presence in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
In fourth place, we find the Chinese Huawei, despite the problems now known with the American government, thanks to a strong performance on the Chinese market. The company even recorded 188% growth from last year. This makes it one of the fastest growing companies in China.
Fitbit closes the rankings in fifth place for 2019. But the report says the future of the business is uncertain due to the acquisition by Google last fall.
For all suppliers, there is a constant. People seem to be very interested in buying wireless headphones. Sales even went from 27.4% in the last quarter of 2018 to 48.1% in the last quarter of 2019.
