For the past few hours, Apple Pay is finally available at Canada for owners of Apple Watch, iPhone and iPad running under iOS 9.1. For the moment, only cards American Express are supported by the mobile payment service of the Cupertino company.
As a reminder, Apple Pay has been available in the USA since October 2014 and in the United Kingdom since last July (read: Apple Pay has been available in the United Kingdom since July 14). Canada is the third country to offer the contactless payment method for the Californian brand. Apple confirmed to Financial Post that the launch of the service in Australia will arrive later this week.
For those who wonder why Visa or MasterCard are not compatible with Apple Pay in Canada when they are in the United States, it is simply because Apple could not find an agreement with the country’s banks. It will probably take a few months before new banking establishments appear.
