The fingerprint reader system Touch ID ofApple could evolve and be placed under the screen of theiPhone.
New patent released this week reveals thatApple has been working for several years to integrate digital recognition under the screen of its smartphones. As a reminder, Touch ID allows you to unlock your phone, make purchases in theApp store or to pay for purchases online or in shops with the payment interface Apple Pay.
Hidden under the screen, the new system Touch ID would have small holes and an associated fingerprint sensor. The light would thus pass through the sensor to illuminate the user’s finger and, by reflection, produce a fingerprint detectable by the device, over its entire surface. If the patent was filed in May 2016, one year before the arrival of theiPhone X, the process will not a priori be integrated into theiPhone XI announced for the end of 2019. The next model ofApple like its predecessor, Face ID, the brand facial recognition system.
The patent also shows the development of a Touch ID “Acoustic” which would capture sound waves and associate them with a fingerprint. One thing is certain: the Cupertino company does not intend to give up Touch ID and seems to want to produce big screen smartphones, like its competitors Honor or Samsung.
