The ball was opened by Apple Watch this year. Tim Cook gave the floor to Jeff Williams, who proudly formalized the Apple Watch Series 4, which was announced from the outset as “Completely revolutionized”.
Apple formalizes the Apple Watch Series 4
It all starts with a completely reinvented screen. Apple has seen it big and offers us this year a panel with (a lot) less borders (more precisely 32 to 35% larger depending on the model) as well as a screen curved which offers a particularly pleasant visual rendering. The Apple Watch Series 4 is available, as has leaked Apple itself on its site in 2 sizes of dials: one of 40 and the other 44 mm and also gains in finesse.
On the technical file side, the Apple Watch Series 4 has a new 64-bit dual-core S4 chip, 2 times faster than the previous generation and a new one 8x faster accelerometer, which in particular makes it possible to detect a fall thanks to the precision of the sensors. In this case, the watch automatically offers to send an SOS alert, which is systematically transmitted if the user does not perform any action after one minute; the emergency contact thus receives an alert with the location of the owner.
The digital crown of the Apple Watch Series 4 wins a system of haptic feedback which reminds us of the trackpad of the latest MacBooks or the Home button of the iPhone 7/8. As for the sound part, you will be happy to know that the smartwatch speakers are 15% more efficient and that the microphone has been moved to reduce the effects of echoes and therefore provide superior sound quality.
The most impressive innovation, and which confirms Apple’s desire to orient this new generation of Apple Watch to health, is the addition ofelectrodes which allows you to generate an electrocardiogram directly from your watch by placing your finger on the digital crown for 3 seconds. A detailed diagnosis is in turn generated on the Health application in the form of PDF which you can then use for medical purposes. The Apple Watch Series 4 can also detect a heart rate that is too low or an irregularity in your heartbeat.
Orchestrated by watchOS 5 (which will be available from September 17), Apple’s new connected device is gaining additional complications which offer more information and more customization possibilities. Thanks to the new screen size, apps will now be able to display more information, which is a significant plus for ease of use.
Finally, the back of the Apple Watch Series 4 is designed in ceramic black and in sapphire crystal, in order to optimize the penetration of the waves and consequently obtain better connectivity thanks to the increased cellular reception.
Note that all of these additions will have no impact on the drums of the watch; Apple has indeed indicated that it would be at the same level as the previous generation.
