Published on Thursday by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, a patent application named “Transient Panel Enabling Message Correction Capabilities Prior to Data Submission”Describes a technology that gives you a chance to correct errors in your messages (SMS & iMessage) before the sending is actually made.
As Apple recognizes it in the patent filing, the automatic correction is a very practical functionality, but which is not perfect. Although it is designed to help you type your message by predicting your words, AutoCorrect sometimes tends to choose the wrong word. In addition, typos you make yourself can often escape your notice, especially if you need to text quickly.
Thanks to Apple’s invention, you should be able to review and edit text after pressing the “Send” button, just before the message is finally sent. You could have a brief moment to correct your errors, without this interfering with the interactivity between your correspondent and you. As always, a patent filing does not necessarily mean that the technology will see the light of the day… Hopefully, that one will be realized!
