Apple said on Tuesday that the sale of mobile applications on the App Store brought in more than $ 10 billion last year, and that more than $ 1 billion was generated in the last month of 2013. Customers have downloaded nearly 3 billion applications, making it the most profitable month of December since the opening of the App Store.
” We wanted to thank our customers for 2013, the best year for the App Store ” Eddy Cue, senior vice president of software and Internet services for Apple, said in a statement. ”The range of apps for the holiday season is incredible, and we can’t wait to see what the developers will create in 2014.”
Apple has since the release of iOS 7 pushed developers to rethink their applications so that they are in line with the flat design of its new mobile operating system. We note for example Evernote, Yahoo, Airbnb, OpenTable, Tumblr or even Pinterest. As a reminder, the App Store is now home to over a million applications for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch (read: App Store: 1 million applications).
