Animal Crossing: New Horizons, 10 tips to get you started

Even if in Animal Crossing: New Horizons for Nintendo Switch the problems of life don’t really exist, knowing a few tips and tricks to optimize your journey and boost your progress can be very useful.

Life on your desert island in Animal crossing: New Horizons will essentially consist of decorating your house, buying clothes, making your island pleasant and finding your friends there (provided you have subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online). But some unpleasant surprises can still arise: being chased by spiders or bees, lacking Miles Nook or resources. Don’t worry, here are some great tips to make your trip a whole lot easier.

Save your Nook Miles

Miles Nook is a new currency introduced in Animal Crossing: New horizons that we can exchange for all kinds of objects or services of all kinds. When you start you will earn Miles Nook very quickly which can cause a strong desire to buy anything. Save your Miles and wait for the residents’ office to become a building (and no longer a tent) which will unlock a catalog of much more supplied and interesting products. Before that, spend your Miles Nook only to increase your inventory, buy plane tickets or pay off your loan to Tom Nook.

Change your appearance

If you have quickly passed the character creation box and you somewhat regret your clothing and appearance choices, don’t worry! Once in play, make yourself a mirror with just a few pieces of wood and an iron nugget. Place it in your home and settle your little worries about look.

Visit the Nook Stop every day

If you are looking to make a few Miles Nook easily, don’t worry. Go to the Nook stop every day and collect your daily reward. It is not huge but it is already that!

Catch tarantulas

If you are in desperate need of bells, wait until it is dark and go looking for tarantulas on your island. They can resell 8,000 bells each, which is significant! However, be careful, if you make a wrong move, they will make you fall in the apples, followed by a direct return home.

Show tarantulas

Given the course of the tarantula, it may be interesting to promote its development. To do this, simply cut all the trees, remove the stumps, pick all the flowers (be careful not to uproot them) and dump them all on the beach. Clear the island of all the insects you find and come back after 7pm. You will only have to fill up with spiders!

Enter a building to escape the wasps

If you accidentally come across a swarm of wasps, you have several options. Either you try to catch them before you get bitten or, quite simply, run to take refuge in a building on the island while waiting for them to dissipate to avoid being disfigured. If you get stung anyway, with weeds and a wasp nest you can make a remedy for yourself.

Find new construction recipes

To find new recipes for making different objects and tools, go to the beaches of your island and look for bottles in the sea. Inside you will find new maps that will allow you, for example, to learn how to “craft” a table or even an umbrella.

Fly elsewhere

By buying a plane ticket at the Nook stop, you can go and visit a random desert island. In addition to being able to harvest resources and exotic fruits not found on your island (resellable at gold prices), you will also meet new characters. Go talk to them and invite them to join your island. A few days later, Tom Nook will give you the mission to help him settle your new inhabitants.

You can move your buildings later

If you have rushed the museum or the store and you start to regret it, don’t worry. When you have improved the residents’ office, you can ask Tom Nook, for a fee, of course, to move the building of your choice to a more appropriate place.

Go see Tom Nook

Here’s how to save some time in Animal Crossing. And especially if you don’t understand everything around you yet, why you can’t access certain parts of the island, why you can’t use the ladder yet, remember that the only way to unlock them is to progress in the game. If you are not sure what to do or how to unlock a situation, do not hesitate to go see Tom Nook to ask him what to do, he will explain how to progress.
