It’s been eleven months since Apple introduced the all-new AirPods wireless charging case. According to the Chinese site Chongdiantou, the hardware should be released in the coming weeks and should work with any Qi-based charging cradle.
The new wireless charger for AirPods was first announced at the iPhone X keynote last year. It made its appearance alongside another long delayed product, the AirPower. This accessory, which would cost around $ 150, will charge several Apple products at the same time, including an Apple Watch, an iPhone, and yes, the brand new AirPods charging case.
Like other Apple products compatible with wireless charging (iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X), the AirPods’ wireless charging box would not work exclusively with Apple’s AirPower; it would support Qi wireless charging protocol. This is a big change from the Apple Watch, which uses a modified version of the Qi standard and which limits how it can be charged.
However, what is not yet clear is whether the new AirPods charging box will also work with first generation AirPods or only with the new generation. Wait and see! Because the next Apple keynote should shed more light on certain points.
