9 months in prison for fake reviews on TripAdvisor

An Italian court has just sentenced a man to 9 months in prison and a 9000 euro fine for having published, in the space of a few months, more than 1000 false reviews on the TripAdvisor site. Ironic situation: TripAdvisor did not fail to greet "a historic decision for the Internet".

The defendant was far from being an average user: he offered his services to an online marketing site (PromoSalento), namely to write false opinions on establishments in exchange for money. (Or a practice that TripAdvisor has carried out for a few years before getting pinned).

Unfortunately, following the update of the scandal of fake reviews on TripAdvisor in 2014, the platform embarked on a real witch hunt … And the group now claims the reliability of its millions of customer reviews as a trademark, while pointing the finger at competing platforms that have not entered the right path on this subject.

TripAdvisor now sanctions companies that take advantage of these false opinions by downgrading them in its list.
