The new technology USB 3.1 with its peaks at more than 1 GB / s – but closer to 700 MB / s in real conditions – installs very slowly. The first compatible motherboards appeared last March, at the CeBIT in Hanover, while a portable SSD compatible with USB 3.1 was announced ten days ago in our columns.
Today, it is the turn of the German brand Sharkoon to go for its devices. She presents us with a 2.5 inch hard drive enclosure which measures 13.4 x 8.5 x 1.4 cm and does not require no tools. The opening is done with a button at the bottom edge and all you have to do is slide the hard drive before replacing the cover. The connection is ensured by the cable supplied. The speeds will obviously depend on the hard drive on board.

In parallel, the Germanic firm offers those who would like to update their configuration, without necessarily changing their motherboard, a additional card to insert into a PCI-Express slot. Compatible with Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 operating systems, it allows you to add two USB 3.1 ports. A CD with drivers is provided.

In both cases, you will have to pay 34.99 euros. The prices are far from excessive.
