Philips installs Android Lollipop in all of its TVs

It was at the CES that TP Vision (Philips) presented its second generation of televisions operating on Android. Already last year, the brand had chosen the Google OS to equip its televisions and offer complete multimedia environments.

Philips This time, the group announces that all its next televisions will be delivered with Android Lollipop, which perfectly integrates TV functionalities to offer a set of services adapted to remote control manipulation while opening access to the Google Play Store and its catalog of 'dedicated applications.

For Philips, Android will present itself as a selling point to consumers, who will be reassured to find an OS that they already use or know.

The choice of Philips is surprising, since the trend among other brands involved in the TV market is different. Thus, LG detaches from Android to prefer WebOS, Samsung will soon offer a TV under Tizen, as for Panasonic, the brand has just announced a screen under Firefox OS.

Still, Android offers a major advantage: the catalog of compatible applications is already well supplied, unlike other platforms.
