Google will soon be a mobile operator

The Wall Street Journal spoke about it in January in the form of a rumor, finally it turns out to be well-founded: Yes, Google has every intention of becoming a mobile operator in the United States.

Pichai-Sundar Sundar Pichai, Google product manager, confirmed the information at a conference, saying the service should be available in the coming months.

Google does not want to install its own infrastructure, but will come in the form of an MVNO, a virtual operator who will use the antenna network already installed by other American operators. Negotiations are therefore in progress with T-Mobile and Sprint.

The poster objective of Google is to innovate in mobile telephony on several levels. The brand has already demonstrated its capabilities through various partnerships giving rise to terminals in the Nexus range. By taking control of the network, Google could better supervise the user in its own ecosystem and offer him new services.

Note that by exploiting the two networks, Google could offer the best existing coverage in the USA at the moment. A situation reinforced by Google's ambition to successfully combine the 4G network and Wi-Fi.
