SpaceX, the company created by Elon Musk announced earlier this week that it plans to build a 1.5 km long test track near its headquarters located in Hawthorne in the suburbs of Los Angeles.
The objective: to allow engineers and development teams to test their capsule prototypes which may one day become the Hyperloop transport system. The project aims to create secure transport networks in which travelers could transit at more than 1200 km / h.
The capsules in question will be suspended in tunnels and propelled using compressed air. The whole should be entirely powered by solar energy produced by panels which will cover all the tracks created.
SpaceX also announced a prize-winning competition for teams with the best concepts. Academics and private companies can all participate in the competition.
