The American number one AT&T tlcoms plans to buy one of its competitors in Europe, says the Wall Street Journal quoting sources close to the group.
AT&T is currently studying targets and a possible transaction could take place before the end of the year, the daily added. The Dutch KPN and the British Everything Everywhere, a joint venture between France Tlcom and Deutsche Telekom, are said to be on the American radar.
AT&T is turning to the international market because it cannot grow by acquisition in the United States, where the competition authorities had blocked in late 2011 its plan to buy T-Mobile USA for $ 39 billion.
An AT&T spokesperson did not wish to confirm the information.
